Overview:
This presentation explores challenging ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding scenarios commonly encountered during trauma registry abstraction. Using real-world case studies, participants will explore coding guidelines, documentation requirements, code selection, and situations where coding decisions may require careful interpretation and professional judgement.
Topics include assault and abuse coding, external cause codes, washouts and debridement, FAST and eFAST imaging, CT coding, abdominal and thoracic injuries, flail chest, pulmonary and cardiac injuries, vascular procedures, negative pressure wound therapy, and spinal fusion.
Using real-world case examples, participants will apply coding guidelines and documentation standards to practical examples, enhancing their ability to make accurate, consistent, and compliant coding decisions that support high-quality trauma registry data.
