Overview:
This engaging and educational session provides a comprehensive look at spinal injuries from both a clinical and coding perspective. Designed for trauma registrars, the presentation blends anatomy, real-world trauma scenarios, and coding expertise into one dynamic learning experience.
Attendees will explore the structure and function of the spine, common mechanisms of injury such as motor vehicle collisions, falls, and violence, and key spinal cord injury statistics. The session also breaks down complex ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding guidelines, including fracture classification, external cause coding, and spinal fusion procedures.
Through interactive questions and real case studies, participants will learn how to accurately code spinal injuries, identify critical documentation elements, and apply coding rules to real-life trauma cases. The presentation emphasizes the importance of precise coding in improving data quality, patient outcomes, and injury prevention efforts.
Key Highlights:
- Simplified spinal anatomy and injury mechanisms
- Step-by-step guidance on ICD-10 coding for spinal trauma
- External cause coding for better data capture and reporting
- Real-life case reviews with practical coding applications
- Focus on accuracy, compliance, and fundamentals of the trauma registry
