Overview:
This presentation will give you some tools to provide injury prevention related to children. As you may know, trauma is a leading cause of death and disability in children with a variety of settings and mechanisms for these injuries. Some of the types of injuries we will talk about include falls, burns, drownings, motor vehicle accidents, and others. In this session, we will discuss these common injuries in pediatric patients along with age specific injury prevention strategies. We will also talk about how to utilize your trauma registry to help determine your top injuries and what programs may be needed in your geographical area. We are going to look at various effective programs that are currently used in pediatric injury prevention and then we will go over tools for you to use when discussing injury prevention with parents and caretakers, and how that might look and sound differently with teenagers and younger children.
